Hung Lee Restaurant, Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong

First meal in Hong Kong after placing all our luggage in our hotel room in Tsim Sha Tsui, we decided to have a slow and easy day and just explore around Tsim Sha Tsui. 

Hongkie loves their congee. So we thought it only makes sense if we kick start our Hong Kong food hunt with this famous congee restaurant!

Tucked away in a quiet street of the bustling Tsim Sha Tsui town, this tiny little shop was not the easiest to spot from afar! And it certainly did not surprise us that we had trouble entering the shop with our huge backpack, let alone securing a table of our own. 

This place is famous not just amongst the tourists, but also a favourite of the locals too! 

We saw a balanced mixture of tourists and locals lowering their heads, gobbling down their food without talking much, and this is the exact Hongkie dining style. 

We shared a table with another couple, whom I believed were tourists too. 

I never liked congee, but the sight of people enjoying the smooth and soup-alike congee bought me into giving their congee a try! 

We also ordered some char kuey to go along with our congee! 

Meatball Congee ($35)

In all honesty, the congee tasted pretty bland but to my utter surprise, I actually found myself enjoying this bowl of congee. 

Finely milled rice was almost undetectable in the flavourful soup. 

I like my congee with a little bit of soy sauce, 

but this bowl of congee was great on its own, all thanks to the super delicious meatball. 

Deep Fried Flour Snack ($11)

Came at a shocking price tag, we expected it to be really crunchy and extra delicious, 

but it turned out to be pretty normal. 

But I am not gonna lie, these snacks did an amazing job at soaking up the congee, 

and adding an interesting soggy but chewy texture to the congee. 

Finished our meal in a jiffy, LOL, the Hongkie style. 

All in all, we found ourselves relished in this simple but incredibly delicious bowl of congee.
