Healthy food option in Sunway- Pokebowl at Pokebear Sunway PyramidShopping Mall

Healthy food doesn't always equate delicious food.

But dare I say, this statement doesn't hold true at Pokebear, Sunway Pyramid Shopping Mall.

If you haven't already known, poke is a famous Hawaiian cuisine which could be served both as an appetiser or as a main course. It is essentially a raw fish salad and for that reason, I'd been associating it with Japanese cuisine (think salmon don) for the longest time. But the truth is, they are not exactly the same.

The number of pokebowl food stalls in KL/Klang Valley had been growing like mushrooms after the rain. With everyone trying to jump on the healthy lifestyle bandwagon, it's almost natural that this healthy eating phenomenon is taking over the f&b industries. Although there are a handful of popular pokebowl places that I know, I'm gonna tell you exactly why Pokebear has been my ultimate favourite.

Situated at the lower ground of the mall, facing the entrance overlooking Sunway Lagoon, this place boasts an absolutely chill and relaxed vibe. Scandinavian minimalist design corresponded perfectly with the food they are serving- minimally processed. This place is perfect for anyone who is always on the go to grab a quick nibble, but it's also a place for relaxed dining among a small group of people.

At Pokebear, they practically don't have a menu, just a list of ingredients which you could mix and match to create your perfect combination. They used to have a number of preset bowls which they have since removed for good. So now you don't have to worry about getting ingredients which you despise in your bowl. From the base to the toppings and sauce, it's completely up to customization and you could even increase your portion at an additional charge.

The ordering process is fuss-free. Upon arriving at the counter, you will be handed a piece of paper with all the ingredients available. You just need to put down a tick beside the ingredient that you'd like in your bowl and hand the paper to the cashier once completed.

I think what makes or breaks a pokebowl definitely lies in the freshness of the ingredients, which is also the highlight of Pokebear Sunway Pyramid. From the poke to the vegetables, sauce, to even the bases, all of the ingredients are ensured fresh every single day.

After settling with your bases which you have the option of brown or white rice, with or without salad you will be choosing your favourite sides. You get to choose up to 5 items as your side with from ingredients such as eggs, corns, crab sticks etc. I absolutely adore the extensive options of toppings to go with my bases and mains. My favourites are without a doubt the crunchy almonds, the popping ebiko and the seaweed for an additional touch of greens. But of course, if these do not float your boat, you could choose whatever your heart desires. Besides, with more than 5 types of sauce which all sound equally delicious to choose from, it was pretty darn difficult to settle with one, and guess what? You don't have to, you can mix up to 2 different sauces to create your very own favourite.

There are 4 types of poke for you yo choose from. My favourite is definitely the salmon. The raw salmon cubes were absolutely fresh and well marinated that there was no disgusting fishy stench or taste to it, I bet non-sashimi eaters would gladly put them into their mouth too. But if you're strongly against raw salmon, you have the choice of chicken, shrimp and tuna to choose from too!

These are two completely different variant of Pokebowls made based on the preferences of D and I.

Judging from the colour of the ingredients used, especially the raw salmon, I guess you could already tell how fresh these ingredients are!
We especially adore the juicy and tender salmon which melted instantly in our mouth.
Also, it's funny how a tweak in the usage of different changed up the flavour of the entire dish.
I think it is going to take me a really long time before I get bored of pokebowls.

This bowl may look like it could hardly fill my tummy, but believe me, with the right ingredients, this bowl will fill your tummy to the brim. It's really difficult to imagine how can a bowl of raw ingredients jumbled up make a delicious meal but it just does! The interesting mixture of textures and the multi-layered tastes make these pokebowls a joy to relish in!

Though Pokebear does provide free flow of drinking water and green tea for absolutely free of charge, they also sell cold press juices to complement your meal.

They currently have three distinctive options for you to choose from.

Skin rejuvenator
Orange, carrot, lemon and mint

Detox
Beetroot, carrot, Apple, cilantro, parsley, celery, ginger, lemon

Nutrient booster
Apple, cucumber, lemon, kale, cilantro, mint

These cold press juices are priced at RM11 individually but is only RM8 if purchased with any pokebowl. My favourite was definitely the skin rejuvenator and I think it provides the best finishing touch to the satisfying meal.

If you haven't already tried out a pokebowl, I highly recommend you to drop by Sunway Pyramid and give Pokebear a try!
