In my humble opinion, Johor Premium Outlet (JPO) is the best shopping heaven in Malaysia. One day would never suffice a shopping freak like I am. But if I am going to be completely honest, they don't have the best food selections.
I kinda always went back to Souper Tang after a fruitful round of shopping to fuel my body before I proceed with more shopping battles.
But this time, we thought we would try something different!
Absolute Thai is ranked as one of the most popular places to eat in JPO, I'd say come in as a close second after Starbucks. So, do expect long queues outside of the restaurant pretty much every weekend, and do expect the situation to worsen during peak shopping season.
We got really lucky this time, or perhaps we were just early.
We were brought to our seats immediately upon arrival.
The modern industrial design of the interior made this place looked really chic but cosy at the same time. The entire place was also dimly lit, and I thought it was a nice juxtaposition of laid back and thrilling (thrilling cause the food is too hot to handle).
STEAMED SIAKAP WITH GARLIC, CHILLI AND LIME SAUCE (RM43.90)
I love my steamed fish to be absolutely fresh so that the fishy smell does not disrupt our eating experience. I must say, they have done pretty well, fish was absolutely fresh and delicate.
It was an absolute joy to eat it.
The soup could get a bit too spicy for non-spicy eater, so do take note on that.
PANDAN LEAVE CHICKEN (6 PIECES) (RM19.90)
This has got to be the easiest dish to be eaten amongst all dishes ordered as it was the only non-spicy food. LOL.
The lemongrass marinated chicken was infused with the fragrance of pandan leaves upon roasting, made eating these chicken an interesting reward to both our nose and our palate.
We absolutely loved how the chicken was roasted to golden perfection with so much moisture retained.
I'd highly recommend this dish!
HOT AND SPICY TOM YAM SOUP SERVED IN FIREPOT FOR FOUR PERSON - CLEAR SOUP, CHICKEN (RM38.90)
As good as it tasted, it was also the biggest horror for all of us, because it was too hot to handle.
Almost none of us were able to finish the soup, we pretty much just picked out the chicken and drenched the chicken with green curry to rid of the spiciness. LOL.
But if you are a fan of uber spicy food, this would definitely be the one that satisfies you!
Despite being extremely spicy, it was also really flavourful and sour at the same time.
How I wish it's less spicy so that we could enjoy the awesomeoness that is in the firepot.
GREEN CURRY CHICKEN (RM16.90/ RM18.90)
Although curry gives you the impression of being real spicy, green curry is the exact opposite.
It is creamy and flavourful like red curry, but green curry is sweet in nature and is not spicy at all.
Although the portion looked pretty small in pictures, they were really generous with the ingredients, we almost felt like we had endless supplies of chicken dumped into the thick broth.
The flavourful broth is also a great companion to fragrant rice!
In a nutshell, if you are a Thai cuisine addict, Absolute Thai is definitely the place to go to! Not only you get really authentic cuisine, their extensive menu would also left you indecisive! The only drawback though is that their food is extremely overpriced. Although we did enjoy our food, but we ended up burning a big hole in our wallet.
I wouldn't revisit this place as you could easily get Thai food with the same quality but would only cost about a quarter of theirs somewhere else.
We also decided to get a crepe for desserts after our super spicy lunch to calm our tongue. 😅😅😅
Crepe wasn't too bad but it lacked a wow-factor.
