As LEWRE celebrate its 20th anniversary, we had the absolute honour to have an intimate afternoon tea session with the brand founder himself, Dato Lew, where we pretty much just dined and listen to the history of his brand through its 20 years of journey.
The history of this phenomenal shoemaker has come a really long way, dating back to when Dato Lew was still a poor kid from a ginormous family of 16 where every living day was a struggle. He and all his siblings had to work in the rubber estate before dawn to ease the burden of their parents. Every time comes breaking dawn, he would have to wrap up his work and run to the school.
Despite having to rise before anyone else, he never once complained, in fact, he secretly enjoyed marveling at the beauty of the first ray of sunlight every morning and he continues to do so until today.
The luminous ray of light, that's how LEW-RE (read: LUminous RAY) aims to perpetually inspire all the youngsters in Malaysia!
After having been in the shoemaking industry for more than 20 years now, Dato Lew is still as passionate as ever, and you could see it from his eyes as he shares his journey.
Lewré was originally an OEM where Dato Lew would design shoes for certain brands. Its blooming potential has then encouraged the establishment Roondy Trading Sdn Bhd (RTSB) as an ODM manufacturer in 1987. Since then, Dato Lew with his passion and incredible creativity had successfully attracted the eyes of fellow shoemaker companies from over 40 countries.
The rapid growth of the popularity of his shoe designs alongside inspirations from his peer, Dato Jimmy Choo had prompted him to establish personalised shoe couture with the name of LEWRE, which is comprised of his name and his registered company name Roondy Enterprise (RE), which also tied in perfectly with his inspiration from the LUMINOUS RAY.
Throughout these 20 years, Dato Lew has only gotten better. His quick rise to fame didn't stop him from learning and improvising his skills. He began picking up painting and continued to better himself. His enthusiasm and humble spirit have made him a renown name in the eyes of the locals to the prestigious royal family of the Britain.
To celebrate the brand's 20 years of success, LEWRE had held an exhibition at The Garden's from the 23rd to the 29th of September 2017 where some of LEWRE's prominent creations were displayed for the public to admire.
Some of which included a painting which symbolises the LUMINOUS RAY.
Which, by the way, is also the title of his first ever coffee table book, released in conjunction with the celebration of LEWRE's 20 years of success. This book is a round up of the story behind the brand and his donkey years of experience in the shoe-making industry.
This galleria also featured shoe lasts, writeups and paintings of his notable designs for Her Royal Highness, Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton, First Lady of China Peng Liyuan, Dato' Sheila Majid, and Dato' Siti Nurhaliza, Datin Winnie Loo and many others!
There was also a craftsmen's booth where LEWRE's in-house cobbler demonstrated how a shoe is made from scratch.
Whilst it is also the 20th Anniversary of the passing of the beautiful Late Princess Diana, LEWRE has also launched a permanent classic line named I ❤ You!
Each and every design was a reminiscence of the lovable late Princess Diana.
This line is sophisticated and gorgeous.
The heart-shaped design is also absolutely creative but classic enough
Just before the end of the galleria, Dato Lew also demonstrated a brief sketching of the I ❤ You collection. Each stroke was swift but confident, with an idea of what the next step should be.
The next thing I knew, a stunning sketch had been completed!
LEWRE also released a limited edition 18k gold heel-shaped flower vase to celebrate the golden 20 years of luminous ray!
