I remember I was once asked D, if he could only eat one type of cuisine for the rest of his life,
what would it be.
He answered: Japanese.
Since then, it's been my yearly mission to take him to try interesting Japanese restaurant on his birthday.
And because I am pretty tight on my budget (student life 😕), I would always look for delicious Japanese buffet, because this way, I don't have to worry about not being able to fill D's tummy.
After a few taps away on the keyboard, I found this interesting looking Japanese restaurant which looked like a misplaced hut in the middle of the city center! And better yet? The Japanese lunch buffet is priced at ONLY RM88 NETT! WHAT A STEAL!
Judging from the setup from the entrance, it is hard to believe this is located right next to the posh hotel lobby of The Corus Hotel, Kuala Lumpur.
Komura Japanese Restaurant which has been around for more than 30 years is well known for its usage of the freshest ingredients, competitive price tag, sterling service and one-of-a-kind Japanese dining experience.
The unassuming exterior of this restaurant may not look much, but the tranquil surrounding within the Komura Japanese restaurant immediately takes you away from the frenetic tourist-fueled frenzy of Kuala Lumpur.
Komura Japanese Restaurant has also won numerous awards over the years.
Following the cobblestones path led us to 5 Tatami rooms which can seat 4 to 20 persons and 9 dining tables in private cubicle rooms which can seat up to 4 pax each. Each room is equipped with its own sliding shoji door for maximum privacy and subtle noise insulation. Komura Japanese Restaurant also offers teppanyaki counters that fit up to 8 pax, perfect for those who enjoy live cooking. Meanwhile, diners who come in a medium group could opt for the dining tables at the open area.
Unlike the usual buffet concept, where the food is cooked beforehand and served in large quantities for patrons to help themselves with, Komura offers a la carte buffet where each of the dishes was cooked to order. The list of offerings at Komura were can be found on each table, where patrons choose the dishes to be prepared upon ordering.
Here are some of the dishes we have managed to stuff our tummy with:
The portion of the dishes may seem small, but many of the items can be repeatedly ordered, so diners are sure to walk away with their tummies filled to the brim.
Everything served was delicious and the raw dishes were very well handled.
They were fresh, free of foul smell or taste and perfectly cut.
While you may think seated in a private room makes getting the staff an impossible mission, we were surprised by how responsive the staffs were!
They would appear in no time right by our door when we pressed on the bell with zero signs of annoyance from them.
They were always so smiley and friendly, it made the entire dining experience absolutely enjoyable.
As it was D's birthday, I called them prior to our visit for this arrangement.
And they executed with perfection.
Not only did they prepare this dessert for completely free of charge, they also had the entire staffs on the floor sang a birthday song for D!
All in all, we highly recommend checking Komura Japanese restaurant out for just about any occasions.
Bonus: you could get your parking ticket validated at the lobby!
