I am back with yet another sunblock review.
If you ask just any dermatologists and they will tell you that the one skincare step shouldn't be missed is not the face wash, not the serum, not the essence and not the moisturiser.
But SUN PROTECTION.
I had been struggling with photo-sensitive since 10 years ago all thanks to the retinoid treatment I use at night to treat my acne.
My dermatologist didn't educate me about the importance of protecting my skin under the sun after using the retinoid treatment at night (thanks Dr.).
So I was always referred to as the Tomato face years ago.
I was constantly made fun of, and I was constantly being asked if I was okay cause my face turned tomato red with just the slightest heat/sun.
And I was damn embarrassed.
But you don't have to go through what I had been through.
Start using sun protection as early as you possibly could to limit sun damage to your skin.
That said, finding the perfect sunblock hadn't been easy at all for me, especially when it comes to my oily/acne-prone skin.
Personally, I would recommend anyone with sensitive skin to opt for physical sunscreen rather than chemical sunscreen because chemical filters quite often cause irritation to sensitive skin.
There are only two types of physical filters in the skincare market, and they are:
1. Titanium Dioxide
2. Zinc Oxide
Zinc Oxide provides protection from the UVA whilst Titanium dioxide mainly reflects UVB rays.
So, ideally, a good physical sunscreen should contain a substantial amount of Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide to provide complete protection.
Chemical filters are some of the compounds which end with:
salicylate, cinnamates, benzophenone and the list goes on and on.
In my search for the best sunblock in the K-beauty realm,
I have decided to put these two from THE FACE SHOP to the test.

In my search for the best sunblock in the K-beauty realm,
I have decided to put these two from THE FACE SHOP to the test.
It is a spray type sunblock which works like a cushion puff.
It provides an instant relief from the heat upon application.
Contains 15,000 ㎍ of Eco-Cert certified Sunflower Sprout Extract
and NMF (NATURAL MOISTURIZING FACTOR).
I know it's confusing.
How can it be a spray and then a cushion puff?
Essentially, this sunblock comes in a spray bottle,
which make sense in keeping the product icy cold.
But often times, a sunblock spray can be messy, and you can't be sure if most of the products get onto your face or get dispersed into the air and disappear into nothing.
So this innovative design comes with a puff on top,
which holds the product onto the puff while you spray the product out.
And all you have to do is just shake the bottle up a few times, pump about 4-5 times onto the puff, stamp the sunblock onto your face and voila!
You're well protected.
Note: Make sure the formula is well absorbed into the puff before spreading the product over the skin.
I personally find this product really fun to use!
The sunblock really came out icy cold and it's such a joy to apply when the weather is blazing hot!
Though marketed as a foundation and sunblock hybrid, I personally find the coverage too sheer to be classified as a foundation.
As pictured here also,
you could see that my skin had a nice glow to it though being absolutely sheer.
You could still see my post acne marks peeking through,
but that's kinda the way I like it, especially when the weather is too hot.
I just want a natural finish on the skin where I don’t have to fuss about sweat lines etc.
It has a mild and soothing fragrance, which I find quite relaxing especially on a hot and sunny day where anything irritates your mood. (or is that just me?)
This product can also be used on both wet and dry skin, making it an ideal sunblock to be used for reapplication or for outdoor activities.

And do you know if your skin is heated, your skin produces more sebum and what’s even worse is that those oils are goopier which means it clogs the pores more easily, leading to acne formation.
THE FACE SHOP Natural Sun Eco Air Puff Sun cools the skin down by as much as 5 degree Celsius upon application!
As you can see from the picture above (hand below), it can barely cover the mole I have.
But it does provide a nice tint to the skin, my skin appears more even toned, instant fairer tone, and more refined texture.

I would imagine this product to be an ideal everyday sunblock for anyone with dry to normal skin type who loves a bit of coverage on the skin with a dewy finish.
It does smooth out the skin slightly and provided an overall blurred effect to the skin.
However, it may be a little oily for anyone with oilier skin type.

Natural Sun Eco No Shine Hydration Sun (50ml) (RM74)
https://www.thefaceshop.com.my/product_info.php?products_id=40
A sun cream which provides protection from both UVA and UVB while doubles up as a mattifier and pore smoothing primer.
Enriched with Cotton Seed to absorb excess sebum and Chia Seed extract to provide moisture to the skin.
Squeeze a teaspoon size of No Shine Hydration Sun on your palm, and apply generously all over the skin, covering your ears and your neck.
As it is a chemical sunscreen, always make sure to apply the Natural Sun Eco No Shine Hydration Sun at least 15 minutes before heading out of the door.
This white creamy texture sunblock applies easily and evenly onto the skin.
Once blended in, neither did it leave any streaky marks or white cast, nor ball up upon reapplication or when layered underneath foundation,
making it an ideal base for foundation on top of it.
The compact and handy packaging, with a squeezy tube design, also makes bringing this product around absolutely convenient.
The 50ml content is also generally bigger than most of the suncream in the market, making it a relatively affordable suncream in the market despite its high sun protection.
Just like any Korean skincare, it has a mild fragrance (anyone with sensitive skin should take note), but I generally quite enjoy the light floral scent.
Though marketed as a no shine sun cream,
I, however, find this cream leaves a tacky feeling on my oily skin.
So personally I’d imagine this to be better suited to anyone with dry to normal/combination skin.

My favourite amongst the two has got to be the THE FACE SHOP Natural Sun Eco No Shine Hydration Sun,
Because I personally prefer slathering on thick layers of suncream on my skin,
And I appreciate how it’s undetectable no matter how many layers I have applied onto the skin.
That said, I still really adore taking THE FACE SHOP Natural Sun Eco Air Puff Sun out with me on days where I have my make up on, just to amp up my sun protection throughout the day without having to worry about it messing with my foundation underneath.
Please note that the recommended amount of sunblock to be applied all over the face and neck is a quarter spoon to achieve the desired protection.
So, please do not merely rely on the sun protection on your foundation to do the sun protection job for you.
Anyone should use sunblock, regardless of your skin type, or whether you’re indoor or outdoor.
